Gradgrind

A gradient editor for RISC OS.
Gradgrind 0.93beta (16 Mar 2026) (371k) — new features

  • GIMP palettes changes:
    • Doesn’t now ignore duplicates
    • Added paged display for large palettes (uses left/right arrows)
    • Description for these shows currently displayed colour numbers
    • Includes (commented) description when saving as gpl file
    • Added some sample GIMP palettes
  • Sprite save icon removed. Can now drag the gradient/swatches displays to save them as sprites. Filename has “S” or “G” appended.
  • Tidied up swatches display, and added option for outlines (toggle with ADJUST)

Gradgrind 0.92 beta (15 Nov 2025) (359k) — new features, bug fixes
New/improved:

  • Can import GIMP palettes (xxx.gpl files, seen as text) and export these as RISC OS palettes
  • Can export gradients/palettes as GIMP palettes
  • Saving to other apps now works, so you can drag-and-drop palettes onto PhotoDesk’s palette and gradient windows
  • Added swatches display of palette
  • Added knot-count display for each channel
  • Better colour/knot value displays (added real numbers etc)
  • Added description box. Saved/loaded in gradient defs, auto-generated for others.
  • Palette files can now be rotated and have contrast/brightness changed
  • Manual updated for new features

Bugs fixed:

  • RO palette files weren’t being closed (oops!)
  • RO palette loading now ignores pointer/border stuff
  • Converted greyscale colour info now works
  • Saving converted greyscale palettes now works
  • Current knot now clamped when modifying knot count
  • Various minor code improvements
